Ep. 14 2018 - Nicole Canale

In this episode I speak with Nicole Canale from Canale Tax and Accounting.

Tell me about yourself

I am a daughter a sister a wife a mother and a step mother. I have a 3.5 year old boy, a 1.5 year old boy and a 12 year old step daughter. I own my own accounting practice based in North Stratified and my husband has his own plumbing business.

Describe for us, a day in the life of you.  Do you have any tips or life hacks?

Every day starts of busy for me as it does any mum. The first thing I do when I wake up is check my emails and social media… it’s probably a habit that I want to get out of as it’s not a good way to start the day. I then shower and get the kids up and ready for them to start their day at daycare. The biggest life hack that I have done which many laugh at me for is putting my kids to bed in their clothes for day care the next day… it saves my sanity of having to chase my 1.5 year old around the house naked in a singlet as it’s the only piece of clothing I could get on him and saves me battling my 3.5 year old on what clothes he wants to wear in the morning. Once we are out the door its smooth sailing from there onwards.

What was the best advice you have received?

Really weird advice …Don’t prostitute yourself out to anyone. The way I interpreted this was that I should never sell myself short to anyone and always back the value that I put on myself.

What books are you currently reading or do you have a fave Netflix or Stan show?

At the moment I am reading a book called the Naked CEO. It’s about learning to dream big and have courage to pursue your passions and be willing to fail at certain things. I am not that far into it yet but so far it is very interesting and I am enjoying it.

If you cook, what recipes can you share or meal prep tips?

Cook… I love to cook when I have time to otherwise I am really average at it… although my husband would say below average. We have one meal in our house and what is put on the table the whole family eats. The slow cooker saves my life on many nights and we will also often eat easy meals such as tacos or cold meats.

What one area of your life would you like to improve?

Lately I have been feeling that I am always glued to my phone and I would like to get out of this habit as it will help me to spend more time with the kids when I get home from work as all they want it my attention

Do you have a daily hack to make your smooth?

No hacks but I have managed to realize that if the kids go to daycare in odd socks that is ok… if they have a cheese stick for breakfast while running out of the house, that is ok… if your house looks like a bomb has hit it that is ok… I have learnt that everything is ok… I have my health, my husband and my children and life is ok

Quick Questions

What website have you signed up to that you actually find value in receiving their emails

I don’t really follow websites but am apart of lots of Facebook groups. Mainly business related but it’s interesting to read others views on things and to see what struggles they are having in their business that you can then work through.

FaceBook Pages

What’s one piece of advice you would give your pre baby self

Live and party a little more and enjoy some time together pre children as you never get it back once you have them.

What’s the most useful / useless baby item you have?

My high chair was a savior. It was one of those high chairs that you could wheel around the house and also tilt backwards if they fell asleep. While I was cooking or working I would always put the kids in here to keep them in the one spot.

Okay, busy mum! Let’s get real, I mean really real real (is that to many reals). I would lurve to get this podcast out there (in podcast land) so that other business mums can learn from these conversations.  As you know, I am on iTunes and I would be forever grateful to get a review on iTunes and the more reviews I receive the more likely iTunes will reward this podcast with a better reach. Here is the iTunes link to help me with a review
