Ep. 11 2019 - Elle Roberts - Online Business Manager
In this episode of the busy mum podcast, I speak with the lovely Elle Roberts who is an Online Business Manager and mum to twins and a wife of a fly in fly out hubby.
How do you define yourself and what you do in your business (if you have one) and your family life?
I am certainly a busy mum. I work as an Online Business Manager – I have about 12 regular clients and other clients I help out at certain times. I help them manage the day-to-day operations of their business, asset in setting up systems and online marketing strategies so that they can get some time back to focus on the work they really love and on the bigger vision of their business.
I also have three kids. 9 yr old who is a mag keen soccer player and is at soccer training or games 5 days a week. And 22 month old twins who are just go-go-go all the time.
I also have a partner who works week on week off at a mine 6.5 hours drive from us so every second week I’m juggling things without him. But I have an incredible nanny who helps keep me sane by looking after the kids four days a week so I can work and by doing lots of the domestic chores for me.
Describe for us, a day in the life of you. Do you have any tips or life hacks?
It changes week to week. The week my partner is away my oldest son also spend the week at his dad’s. So we are a busy house hold of five one week, and a slightly less busy household of three other weeks.
My biggest life hack is ROUTINE which seems silly to say as I also feel like our life runs on chaos not routine but that’s just because it is always busy and is in fact knowing well in advance where everyone needs to be when and how that is going to work that saves us.
My son does a lot of sport and I’m often getting home with him after 7pm – we still have to do homework, wash uniforms etc and get all the kids to bed at a reasonable time – so meal planning a prepping meals in advance is another MUST in our house.
What was the best advice you have received?
No one has their shit together – we are all just making it up as we go along so trust yourself and do what you need to do to make life work and make life easier.
Where do you go to get your entertainment? E.g. Netflix, Books, Podcasts, YouTube, and what are your fave’s.
We live 30 min out of town (and did I mention all the sport) so I spend a LOT of time in the car. I LOVE podcasts. I feel like this time isn’t wasted because it’s my chance to consume books and podcast – I am entertained, inspired and educated all while playing taxi!
But I’m also a sucker for Netflix! Love me some crime shows, documentaries etc but this week I’m binging on Shameless.
What is your go to dinner!
Tacos is a crowd pleaser and if you pre-prep it it is quick and easy! We eat outside on the deck so there is very little clean up as well.
What one area of your life would you like to improve?
Exercise – I have made a huge effort to eat better, drink less wine and less coffee this year but I haven’t yet found a way to make movement part of my everyday.
What’s your greatest fear and how do you deal with it?
That I’m not a good mum or not a present enough mum. I talk to my partner and my family about it regularly because when I keep it to myself it grows. I also carve out specific family time and the busier I am with work the more important those FAMILY days become.
Any afternoon that we are all home (only 2 a week) we are all outside, no phones allowed and we have fun as a family.
What website have you signed up to that you actually find value in receiving their emails
Honestly don’t think I read any regular emails at the moment.
What’s one piece of advice you would give your pre-baby self
Life isn’t EVER going to be the same again, its ok to be sad about that but it’s also going to be wonderful!
What’s the most useful / useless baby item you have?
Most useful – I hated it with a passion but with the twins I have to say the breast pump was a godsend.
Most useless – Their cots – none of my three kids have done much sleeping in their cots, they all preferred to be in bed with me until they were big enough for kid beds.

LOVE MY PODCAST?
Okay, busy mum! Let’s get real, I mean really real real (is that to many reals). I would lurve to get this podcast out there (in podcast land) so that other business mums can learn from these conversations. As you know, I am on iTunes and I would be forever grateful to get a review on iTunes and the more reviews I receive the more likely iTunes will reward this podcast with a better reach.
