Ep. 07 2019 - Paula O'Sullivan - Founder of Possum Digital
In this episode of the busy mum podcast I speak with the very knowledgable Paula from Possum Digital. We talk about the different type of social media strategies that can be implemented in your business
How do you define yourself and what you do in your business (if you have one) and your family life?
I am a Social Media Strategist – though I’m really a translator, as I take the jargon and BS out of this discipline and make it accessible for my clients. My business is Possum Digital and we help a range of businesses and charities. I’ve been working for myself for about 6.5 years.
I co parent a very bright and funny 4.5 year old with my ex partner. Love cooking, Netflix and coffee. While I like being out and about, I’m an introvert at heart and crave downtime.
Describe for us, a day in the life of you. Do you have any tips or life hacks?
Each day is genuinely different, and as my daughter is not with me all the time. But it can be anything from working out of a coworking space, to visiting clients. I try and have Friday as admin at home day – where I also meet with my mastermind group online
My 2 best hacks are having my to do list in an app, so that I never have to remember anything, and having food that’s easy to prepare and take with me.
What was the best advice you have received?
Don’t take it personally – it’s rarely about you
What books are you currently reading, or do you have a fave Netflix or Stan show?
The best book I have read this year is “The Subtle Art of Not giving a F*ck” – helped reframe my mindset, and focus on what actually matters, not what I thought mattered
I have both Stan and Netflix, and while I don’t have a favourite show, my favourite genre is British crime or Scandi Noir murder mysteries followed closely by political thrillers. I also do love a good comedy – Brooklyn 99 being a firm favourite.
Another great book is Ikigai - A Japanese secret to a long and happy life
What is your go to dinner!
Salmon, greens beans, corn and carrots. Super easy, healthy and I know that my daughter will eat it.
What one area of your life would you like to improve?
Work / life balance. Because I can work from anywhere (and have a home office) there’s a huge temptation to work at night. On average I can work 12 hour days during the week, but I recognize this is not sustainable long term
I’ve been able (for the most part) ring fence weekends so that I don’t work.
What’s your greatest fear and how do you deal with it?
My greatest fear is heights. I’ll happily drive fast cars (and I have done a few laps in a race car), but get me up high, especially in a plane, and I’m anxious. I once went to Paris and didn’t go up the Eiffel Tower.
Breathing techniques the calm myself down, and having an anchor point to focus on really help
What website have you signed up to that you actually find value in receiving their emails
What’s one piece of advice you would give your pre baby self
Make sure you remember to have fun
What’s the most useful / useless baby item you have?
The best baby item it the dare to dream swaddle – so good!

LOVE MY PODCAST?
Okay, busy mum! Let’s get real, I mean really real real (is that to many reals). I would lurve to get this podcast out there (in podcast land) so that other business mums can learn from these conversations. As you know, I am on iTunes and I would be forever grateful to get a review on iTunes and the more reviews I receive the more likely iTunes will reward this podcast with a better reach.
