In this weeks episode of the busy mum podcast, I speak with Di from Restore Face Body Soul. We talked about the hurdles you cross when you are in business. This is Di’s 5th industry change. We touch on marketing and packaging and profit along with loads of other areas including our love for cooking.

How do you define yourself and what you do in your business (if you have one) and your family life?  Do you use any apps in business that you can’t live without?

I’m a Beauty Therapist specialising in Facial therapies and Brow & Lash treatments. I’ve developed a skincare range that is starting to take off - I haven’t really marketed it outside of my face to face clients at the moment , but I get lots of positive feedback so this year I’ll be focusing on growing that side of my business. I started my business after I re-trained as a Beauty Therapist 8 years ago. I started practicing on friends and family and it just grew from there. I have a Studio at the front of our house andwe live at the back. My husband is a builder, so that’s come in handy!

The handiest app I use is online booking! It saves so much time and I’ve started requesting a deposit and haven’t had a no-show since! Best thing ever.

I’m a Mum to 4 adults, Nanny to 2 and a wife with 32 years of experience! So life has slowed a bit since they all moved, but it’s given us the opportunity to do our own thing. Technology has opened up so many opportunities that weren’t available to us pre-family.

Describe for us, a day in the life of you.  Do you have any tips or life hacks?

I’m basically a lazy person, so I’m always looking at how I can make my life easy. I start seeing clients after 10 as I found I’m more productive in the mornings - I find that as the day goes on I lose interest! I try to keep things as simple and minimal as possible, again so that my life is easy!

I usually see 5 clients each day, mainly for facials and brows. I love that I can help women to relax and feel good about themselves. I’m pro-aging, which means that I believe in being happy and healthy at whatever life stage you’re at.

What was the best advice you have received?

Don’t get caught up in what other people say or think. You can’t control that, so there's no point in even going there. Do what makes you happy!


Where do you go to get your entertainment? E.g. Netflix, Books, Podcasts, YouTube, and what are your fave’s.

Audiobooks! I love them and listen whenever I can! Doing housework, walking, gardening driving - where ever! I also listen to podcasts and read whenever I can

At the moment I’m reading Jane Caro’s Accidental Feminist. I’m able to relate to what she’s saying. There’s still a long way for women to go, but we also need to recognise how far we’ve come, I don’t watch much TV, but I often go to the movies - usually on my own. It’s a way for me to relax - which I find hard to do at home.

What is your go to dinner!

Fish tacos and sweet potato fries. What goes into the tacos depends on how much time I’ve got, but usually slaw and avocado.

What one area of your life would you like to improve?

Getting out of bed in the mornings! I’m a bit of a night owl, so I find it hard to get out of bed - literally that’s the struggle. I can be awake for ages but it’s getting upright I find hard. But once I’m up I think it’s great ????

What’s your greatest fear and how do you deal with it?

It used to be tied between snakes and heights, but I’ve overcome the height one so now it’s snakes. And I live in the country - across the road from fields that are regularly harvested. In an area renowned for tiger snakes.  So I’m very careful when I go outside.

What’s one piece of advice you would give your pre baby self

You can survive on very little sleep. Don’t fight it - it’s just how it is at that moment and it won’t always be like that.


What’s the most useful / useless baby item you have?

A stroller has always been the thing I found most useful! You can get out for a walk, rock a teething baby or use it for the shopping when you’re carrying a tired toddler.
