Ep. 29 2019 - Jodie Brett Founder of Dot Com Digital
In this weeks episode I speak with Jodie from Dot Com Digital. We talk about flexible work places, reducing stress, new borns and going back to work / starting your own business and also marketing.
Tell a little about you, your business (what do you specialize in and how people can contact you) and how you got started?
I am a 28 year old mum of two daughters (2 years and 10 weeks). I have been married for almost four years and my husband and I have been together since we were 19. I love to cook and bake (when I get the time) and I have definitely become more of a home body since having kids. A perfect weekend for me is spending time as a family, pottering round the house, maybe out to breakfast, a park visit. Just enjoying each other's company!
I setup my business, Dotcom Digital, when I went on maternity leave with my first daughter. I was a bit optimistic about the time I would have on my hands, so I didn't pursue it until around 12 months later. I was approached by a family member who desperately needed some help with their digital marketing and the business kind of kicked off from there and has just grown organically since. Currently, I am on maternity leave and am retuning to work early to mid June!
My business aims to be an extension of my clients' teams that helps them to take control of their digital marketing without compromising their core function. As small business owners, we know that we get caught up in doing 'all he things', and I aim to take one of those 'things' which owners are often overwhelmed and confused by and achieve real results. I work across areas including social media, paid advertising, email marketing and strategy. But my main focus is to ensure that all those channels and tactics work together to drive customers and clients through a buyer's journey. I am always about a holistic approach to a business. marketing!
Do you use any apps in business that you can’t live without?
What do you specialize in? let’s go deep into that…
Digital strategy, particularly looking at an inbound approach to marketing. I am launching some new services in this area on my return to work and I am so excited about them! You can find more info here www.dotcomdigital.com.au/digital-strategy
Where do you go to get your business information and why?
All online for me, or relevant books.
Industry specific news sites such as social media examiner, marketing tech news, entrepreneur, ad age etc.
Books I quite like ones that help me better my systems or processes, for example I am (trying) to read 'profit first' at the moment (when I get five mins)
What one area of your business you would like to improve and why and how do you propose to do this?
Having a more set structure around work times. It's hard with kids (especially young kids not at school) because I have to try and work around nap times and things. But once we are in a more structured routine, I hope this will happen quite naturally.
Some Fun Quick Questions

LOVE MY PODCAST?
Okay, busy mum! Let’s get real, I mean really real real (is that to many reals). I would lurve to get this podcast out there (in podcast land) so that other business mums can learn from these conversations. As you know, I am on iTunes and I would be forever grateful to get a review on iTunes and the more reviews I receive the more likely iTunes will reward this podcast with a better reach. Here is the iTunes link to help me with a review
